Five Tips To Work Smarter

Getting a job through the pandemic was quite a challenging task, and we were working with our clients to help them get back on their feet. Through all the changes, lockdowns, and curfews, people were unsure about the future. They were working remotely, and companies had to cut down some of their costs to get through processes.

We worked with some companies to assist with their marketing needs because those were changing through the pandemic. The conventional ways of marketing were not as effective anymore, especially with a lot fewer people leaving their homes or traveling to their offices. Through all of these, it was challenging for some to keep up, so we created a list of pointers to allow them to work smarter and get through processes.

Tip #1: Focus on one task at a time

Studies have shown that when you switch from one task to another, you spend more time in the transition because you have to get back in the frame of mind to start processing again to get through the process. There are many approaches to handling one task at a time, and one of the most prominent ones is that you should work on creating a priority list for your entire day, right in the beginning. After you are done with that, you should start tackling one task at a time while clearing them off the list. You would soon find that you have worked on the biggest hurdles and roadblocks, which would get you through the smaller ones with ease.

Tip #2: Keep your to-do list short

Keep your to-do list short and focus on three to five important and challenging tasks for the day, your most important tasks that, once completed, will make you feel highly productive. You should make sure you have all the information delegated and properly planned to focus on the tasks that truly matter. If you do not create proper to-do lists, you would find that you spend a lot of your time doing tasks that take time but are not a requirement.

Tip #3: Respond quickly

Get in the habit of responding to people right away. If you open an email that requires a response, take the time to respond immediately, so the task is off our list. If the task would take you five minutes to handle and you are the only person that can get it done, you should do it immediately. The faster your response time, the more efficient you would be in getting more done. Furthermore, when someone is waiting for an update, it is smarter to tell them that you would get back, if you don't have an answer and then get back instead of just remembering that you would get it done in the future. Responding quickly shows the clients your efficiency.

Tip #4: Measure your results, not your time

Keep an ongoing list of everything you accomplish during the day, which will help you feel motivated and accomplished. At the end of the day, you want to make sure you know how productive your day was and not how much you got done. If we start evaluating our days, we would find that there is a lot that we don't have to handle ourselves, but we choose to. There are other challenges and processes that we have to get through, and we should start measuring the results, the tasks that had to be pushed to the following day should not count.

Tip #5: Establish a morning and night routine

Try to start your morning the same way each day which could mean taking a short walk to move around before sitting at your desk, or starting your day by reading a book for professional development.

Just as you have a routine for starting your day, you should also have a routine for the end of your day, as it will position you for a great start in the morning. There are enough studies to show the importance of routines and how they would improve productivity, and the habits would get you through some of those tasks faster than if you were to figure it out as you went along.
